Funded universities

971 tenure-track professorships were created at 75 universities in Germany under the Federal Government-Länder Funding Programme since 2018. The tenure-track professorship career path was permanently implemented by the funded universities.

Universität Leipzig

With the Leipzig Tenure-Track-Programme (LTTP), the university has established a new academic career path for excellent early career researchers. It opens up the possibility of scientific independence at an early stage of their career and offers a transparent and reliable planning perspective for a permanent W2 or W3 professorship.

University of Education Ludwigsburg

Ludwigsburg University of Education (LUE) is a modern center of competency for educational sciences in four closely related disciplines: school education, extra-curricular children’s and youth education, adult / further education and education in cultural and social areas. LUE offers doctoral and post-doctoral degrees and are therefore on a par with full universities.

Leuphana University Lüneburg

In order to qualify our young scientists for a long-term scientific career and to promote them in the best possible way, Leuphana University has established a transparent career system in which the various career paths, the personnel development concept and specific support measures have been jointly developed with the relevant committees.

Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg

Otto von Guericke University of Magdeburg aims at fostering the new research area "Digital Transformation", to lay the foundation for a transdisciplinary cooperation that is also of great interest to the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz

At JGU, similar to many German universities, a significant number of permanent professorships have to be made available to applicants as fixed-term positions with tenure-track. The tenure-track professorship makes planning an academic career easier and more transparent, and allows those involved to make decisions early on about whether to stay in academia.

University of Koblenz-Landau

Since 2003, the University of Koblenz-Landau has successfully employed the tenure track-model as an instrument for supporting and developing young academics. In continuation of these efforts, the university has officially established tenure track-professorships as one career path toward a permanent professorship and it will strive to implement the concomitant cultural change.

Philipps-University Marburg

The Philipps-University Marburg (UMR) will implement the tenure-track-professorship on a permanent basis as a regular procedure, thereby offering outstanding scientists an additional and predictable career path to a permanent professorship during their early career phase.

Akademie der Bildenden Künste München

The Establishment of Tenure-Track Professorships at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich is intended to promote young academics and artists in an early stage of their career, i.e. after a successful PhD, a PhD in practice or equivalent artistic-academic work experience, in the long term.

Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

As a research-intensive comprehensive university, LMU Munich provides excellent research and training conditions to outstanding early career researchers at all stages of their academic careers. For more than ten years, LMU has advertised all W2 professorships as tenure-track positions and has continuously developed and extended its tenure-track model.

Technical University of Munich

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) has started a new career system for its faculty staff, defined in the statute “TUM Faculty Recruitment and Career System” of 1 July 2012. With this career system TUM offers excellent conditions for next-generation faculty staff to develop their careers at TUM.
