Funded Universities

The Tenure-Track-Programme is due to run for a total of 15 years (2017–2032) and is being implemented through two approval rounds. The Federal Government is making up to one billion euros available for the programme. After the successful concluded second round in 2019 a total of 1000 professorships were granted at 86 universities.

The Federal Government-Länder Programme

The Joint Federal Government-Länder Tenure-Track Programme will result in the first ever widespread introduction of tenure-track professorships at German universities and higher education institutions.

The Tenure-Track Professorship

In the past, the path towards a lifelong professorship in the German academic system has been protracted and uncertain – particularly when compared with other countries. For this reason, the Federal Government and the Länder agreed a funding programme for junior academics on 16 June 2016.

Funding

The basis for the funding is the administrative arrangement between the Federal Government and the Länder concerning a funding programme for junior academics, dated 19 October 2016.
